Statement about Government proposals around the police funding formula (22 Jul 2015)

The West Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner Mark Burns-Williamson, said:

"I have always fought for a fairer funding deal for West Yorkshire and will continue to do so.

"West Yorkshire Police is one of the largest forces in the country with some of the greatest needs, facing much more complex policing challenges than the smaller police services such as cyber-crime and human trafficking and the volume of those crimes.

"We have already been unfairly penalised by the government with severe cuts hitting West Yorkshire the hardest and by 2016/17 the budget will have been cut by 30%

"The planned changes to the funding formula provide an opportunity for the government to redress this but it must take into account the changing nature of some crimes that forces like West Yorkshire Police have to deal with.

"I will of course be representing the interests of our communities throughout this consultation."
