A message for Christmas and the New Year from West Yorkshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner (21 Dec 2017)

I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and all the best for 2018.

2017 has had its challenges with the awful terror attacks and the demands put on our emergency workers who selflessly work through the festive period and all year round putting themselves in harm's way to keep us all safe.

I'd like to thank every member of West Yorkshire Police, the Fire and Rescue Service, health services and community volunteers throughout the county and would ask everyone to spare a thought for their hard and inspiring work.

This year has seen amazing acts of bravery with officers and staff going above and beyond each day to ensure our communities remain safe.

I hear truly inspiring stories at the many events I attend recognising officers, staff and partners that make me extremely proud for their outstanding contributions to public service

From saving lives, to preventing crime, to safeguarding, to developing others, to raising awareness around diversity and hate crime to securing convictions. It is so important that we take time out to recognize and celebrate so many amazing achievements of West Yorkshire Police officers, staff and valued partners as they go about their daily business to help keep people safe and feeling safe which is our shared vision for West Yorkshire.

I am sure 2018 will bring many challenges as well as opportunities for improving our services to the people we all serve and to make a real difference to people and their families in our communities across West Yorkshire.

I remain confident that working collaboratively in partnership with your support we will achieve so much again this year.

Have a Happy Christmas and a fantastic New Year.

Best wishes

Mark Burns-Williamson
West Yorkshire's Police and Crime Commissioner
