Police and Crime Commissioner message ahead of Halloween and Bonfire Night (30 Oct 2017)

Halloween _poster _2016Mark Burns-Williamson, West Yorkshire's Police and Crime Commissioner, said "It's that time of year again and Halloween and Bonfire Night are upon us.

"Whilst these events can be great fun, not everyone wants to take part.

"I would ask anyone celebrating to please be mindful of those in your community who may find this time of year unnerving or stressful.

"For those people that would prefer not to have trick-or-treaters call, West Yorkshire Police has created a 'Sorry - no trick or treat' poster that you can display. You can download the poster here https://www.westyorkshire.police.uk/news-appeals/halloween-general-safety-advice. The website also contains further tips and advice on how to stay safe.

"I would like to reassure communities that additional high visibility patrols will be taking place over the Halloween and Bonfire night period. However if you do need to report a crime or incident to the police, a range of contact options can be found here https://www.westyorkshire.police.uk/contact-us or you can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 111 555 if you would prefer to remain anonymous.

"I sincerely hope we don't see any attacks on our emergency service workers this Halloween and Bonfire Night and I would like to reiterate my full support for the 'Protect the Protectors' and 'More than a Uniform' campaigns.

"Emergency service workers do an incredible and selfless job. They run towards danger and put themselves in harm's way to keep us safe. I can't condemn attacks on them strongly enough and I fully support the zero tolerance message to ensure those thinking of committing these despicable attacks know the consequences, consider the recklessness of their actions and that they will rightly face strong action and prosecution.

"I hope you all, and most importantly our dedicated emergency service workers, have a safe and enjoyable Halloween and Bonfire Night."
