Sixteen jailed for over 200 years as part of grooming gang (19 Oct 2018)

Sixteen defendants have been jailed for over 200 years as part of a grooming gang which preyed on vulnerable young girls in Huddersfield.

West Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Mark Burns- Williamson said:

"It is absolutely testament to the resolve of the victims and their families that we have arrived at these outcomes and that those responsible have been brought to justice.

"Tackling Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) has remained a key priority throughout my Police and Crime Plans, these convictions serve to highlight the consequences for those involved in such crimes and the ongoing determination and painstaking work of the West Yorkshire Police investigation teams.

"Safeguarding children and young people from such behaviour is central to this approach, as is giving victims the confidence and support to come forward.

"I will continue to engage and work with the police, other partners and victims to ensure that awareness, prevention and protection are critical areas of ongoing focus."
