West Yorkshire Police Awards 2018 (9 June 2018)

New innovations, dedication to frontline policing, bravery and intricate murder investigations are among the achievements which have been honoured at this year's West Yorkshire Police awards.

The annual awards ceremony which was held at the Force's Training and Development Centre, at Carr Gate in Wakefield last night (8 June), recognised the accolades of police officers, staff, volunteers and members from the Special Constabulary.

West Yorkshire's Chief Constable Dee Collins thanked everyone for their professionalism and commitment to public service and congratulated all who were nominated as well as the award recipients.

Chief Constable Collins, said: "Our annual awards is not just to celebrate our nominees and award winners but to celebrate all the officers and staff at West Yorkshire Police, who work tirelessly and selflessly to ensure our communities are not only safe but feel safe.

"The past 12 months has been extremely challenging, not only for our Force area but Policing as a whole. I am constantly amazed by the incredible and courageous work undertaken each and every day by my staff and I am so proud of their continual commitment to the job.

"I would also like to pass on my immense gratitude to the families and loved ones who, on a daily basis, support and encourage officers and staff."

West Yorkshire's Police and Crime Commissioner, Mark Burns-Williamson, also attended Friday's ceremony and said: "It's so important to recognise the amazing work of our police officers, staff and partners, and these annual awards are a real highlight during the year.

"It's no secret that it is a very challenging time for policing and our officers and staff really are at the forefront of that. They put themselves in harm's way day in day out to keep us all safe, displaying exceptional bravery, professionalism and integrity in the way in which they go about their business.

"The awards celebrate the best achievements from over the last year and it's testament to the work of West Yorkshire Police that there are so many nominations making it so difficult to choose the winners! I also wanted to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to all our officers, staff, volunteers and partners for their continued efforts in keeping West Yorkshire safe and feeling safe, their work is appreciated by so many people in our communities across the county."
