PCC Statement on Huddersfield man Being Convicted of the Murders of Three Generations of a Family

6 Aug 2019

Mark Burns-Williamson, West Yorkshire's Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), said: "Although today's outcome will never be able to fix the devastating harm caused, I do hope that the Chishti family and all those affected by this appalling crime find some comfort in the fact that Shahid Mohammed has now been brought to justice and held accountable for his involvement in the deaths of 8 innocent people.

"Shahid went to great lengths to try to evade justice which resulted in this being an extremely long and complex case involving a large number of organisations and individuals, not just across the UK but internationally.

"I want to place on record my thanks to the family for their dignity and patience, and all those involved, particularly the West Yorkshire Police investigations teams over a number of years who have shown great tenacity and commitment in pursuing Shahid and ultimately bringing him to justice. Also our partners at the National Crime Agency, the British High Commission in Islamabad, the Crown Prosecution Service and local authorities in Pakistan.

"I have been kept apprised of the investigation throughout by West Yorkshire Police and also liaised closely with Huddersfield MP Barry Sheerman who has also worked with us and the family throughout."
