West Yorkshire PCC Statement on Significant Serious and Organised Crime Op across the Region
West Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), Mark Burns-Williamson, who also leads for the Association of Police and Crime Commissioner’s (APCC) on Serious Violence said:
“This is a significant coup for policing and enforcement agencies within the region, and really represents our collective efforts in tackling serious organised crime and associated violence in its various guises.
“It is extremely encouraging to see that the time and resources that we are collectively investing into tackling these issues is making a real difference to people’s lives and in turn supporting community safety on a local level.
“As the national portfolio lead for tackling serious violence, I know full well the detrimental impact that this type of criminal activity can have and particularly the sophisticated way such networks can manifest themselves in trying to evade justice.
“In addition to the nationwide response which takes place, often behind the scenes, I continue to support the work locally of Programme Precision, which is our partnership effort to confront the associated crimes here in West Yorkshire.
"Given the seizures made and sums of money involved I also hope that some of this finds its way back to policing and communities through the Proceeds of Crime processes. I’ve been at the forefront of utilising Proceeds of Crime funding to benefit many community groups and organisations through my Safer Communities Fund, often those areas that have been hit hardest through this type of criminality and Government need to go further in ensuring much more of these seized funds and assets are returned and utilised locally during such challenging times.
“I would like to extend my personal thanks to all those officers and staff involved in this excellent operation, which has clearly achieved very impressive results.”
