West Yorkshire receives further funding boost to tackle serious violence

8 May 2019)

Responding to the Home Office announcement of further £4.02m funding for West Yorkshire to tackle serious violence, Mark Burns-Williamson, West Yorkshire's Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), APCC Chair and Serious Violence Lead, said:

"Whilst the further funding allocations today are welcome, it is ultimately through early intervention and prevention work that we can most effectively tackle knife crime and serious violence.

"Around a third of the Serious Violence Fund is for Violence Reduction Units, and other preventative initiatives, and we want this distributed at the earliest opportunity.

"We continue to work with the Home Office and Chief Constables to help coordinate how it is to be spent productively."
