COVID-19 Extraordinary MoJ Funding for Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence Support Services 24th March 2020 to 31st March 2021
On 2 May 2020, the Government announced a package of £76m extra funding to support victims and survivors of domestic abuse (DA), sexual violence (SV), vulnerable children and their families, as well as victims of modern slavery, during the COVID-19 emergency pandemic.
Of this £76m funding package, £25m will be administered by the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) and distributed via Police and Crime Commissioners (PCCs). The COVID-19 extraordinary funding is to meet the additional costs West Yorkshire registered charities or social enterprise have incurred or will incur whilst adapting their services during the pandemic, and to cope with demand increases resulting from it, during this time period.
On 19 May 2020, the MoJ notified us of the maximum amount of COVID-19 extraordinary funding that can be made available to the Police and Crime Commissioner for West Yorkshire by the Secretary of State for Justice for the financial period from 24 March 2020 to 31 October 2020 inclusive.
The PCC received funding requests from 16 organisations from across West Yorkshire and the total allocated to providers is £495,640 for the period from 24 March 2020 to 31 October 2020 inclusive. The funding is ring-fenced for COVID-19 related emergency funding.

“Coronavirus has forced us all to work in very different ways and this funding has presented a valuable opportunity to ensure we are making the most of resources accessible to those that need them the most.
“I am really pleased that we have been able to offer grants to a variety of different organisations across the region to offer vital support and advice to victims of domestic and sexual abuse. It’s been a real challenge to turn this around so quickly, but thanks to the staff at the Office of PCC (OPCC) and all our partner organisations in receipt of this funding we have been able to move quickly and achieve it.”
